Welcome to the Association of Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ACPP).

We are an association of experienced couple psychotherapists based in Cape Town, Johannesburg and affiliate members in Durban South Africa.
We offer psychoanalytic couple psychotherapy and assist with separation and divorce.

The Association of Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists (ACPP) consists of highly trained and experienced therapists who apply psychoanalytic thinking and principles in working with couples. The ACPP has its theoretical roots in the Couple Therapy Model developed by the Tavistock Relations (formerly the Tavistock Marital Studies Institute, TMSI) in London. This way of working with couples is a discipline separate from individual and family work.

The ACPP is based in Cape Town and has affiliate members in Johannesburg & Durban. Currently there are 56 active members. All members of the ACPP are registered therapists who have completed the in-depth 2 year couple psychoanalytic couple psychotherapy training program. After completing the training, members are required to attend ongoing peer education and reading groups that meet monthly. More about us…

The course material comprises readings grounded in psychoanalytic theory, attachment theory as well as object relations theory. In addition there will be clinical case presentations. The group of 8 – 10 members will meet weekly for 90 minutes.
